Natural Blue Homemade Gummies

Natural Blue Homemade Gummies Natural Blue Homemade Wine Gums Natural Blue Homemade Wine Gums

“Yo listen up here’s a story
About a little guy that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything he sees Is just blue
Like him inside and outside
Blue his house with a blue little window
And a blue Corvette
And everything is blue for him
And himself and everybody around
‘Cause he ain’t got nobody to listen
I’m Blue da ba dee da ba daa
Da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa
Da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa”

Natural Blue homemade Gummies

Anyone remember this song from the late 90’s by Eiffel 65??? I think I just aged 5 years, simply from typing that 😉 Anyways this song has been in my head ever since I made these little naturally blue gummy men. So I just had to get it out ;D And I hope you are not going “NOOOOOoooooooo, NOW it is in MY head” right now. If it is – I’m sorry.

Natural Blue Homemade Gummies

For these Natural Blue Homemade Gummies I used lychee juice, grape juice, honey, butterfly pea flower tea and of course gelatin. I use grass fed beef gelatin from Great Lakes. Gelatin is a great protein source to add to your diet. Gelatin has many health benefits, including being great for gut health. It is a great source of the amino acid glycine, which promotes relaxation and sleep, helps improve insulin insensitivity, reduces inflammation, improves digestive health, protects the mucosal barrier (read anti-leaky gut compound!!). For more info on gut health and healing your gut, see the page “Healing Your Gut“, here on the blog.

Last but not least you of course need some nice molds. This in my opinion is where the real fun comes in. I love these cute little gummy bear molds. My oldest’s is all about the LEGO molds, and my youngest’s favorite mold is the one with the dinosaurs 🙂 They are so cute…… And there are so many options, so you can go completely crazy, if you want 😉

Homemade gummies in the making

First make the blue butterfly pea flower tea, by adding 1 tbsp (2 grams) of the butterfly pea flower tea to 2 tbsp of boiling water. Let it stand and stir once in a while to help the color really get out. Add the lychee juice to a small pot, sprinkle over the gelatin and let it “bloom”. Which is a fancy way to say: “let the gelatin hydrate”. See the pictures above, to get an idea about this. While the gelatin blooms, get the rest of your ingredients and the molds ready. I used fresh grape juice and honey to sweeten these natural blue homemade gummies. If you can’t be bothered to juice the grapes, or if you don’t have a juicer you can of course use store bought grape juice. Just make sure you get the white grape juice and not red grape juice….. since that will of course impact the color of the gummies.

When the gelatin has bloomed, turn on the heat and slowly melt the gelatin lychee juice mix. Don’t let it boil. Stir it slowly, don’t over whisk it, as it foams rather easy. Once all of the gelatin has dissolved, take it off the heat. Add the fresh grape juice and honey, stir it gently, until it is all mixed well. Finally add the blue tea, pour it through a filter so you don’t get the butterfly pea flowers into your gummies, and squeeze every little drop of color out of it. Stir it gently, until it is all mixed well, and pour the gummy mix into molds, or use a little pipette (dropper). For the little gummy bear molds it is definitely necessary to use a little pipette 😉

Place the gummies in the refrigerator for minimum an hour, before you remove them from the molds. They are now ready to be eaten. Enjoy 🙂 They stay good in the refrigerator for a couple of days, but remember to listen to your own threshold in terms of how fresh your food need to be. The longer they are kept, the harder the little gummies get.

Description

Natural Blue Homemade Gummy Lego Men – made from fruit juice and blue butterfly pea flower tea.

Ingredients

  • 100 ml lychee juice
  • 2 tbsp gelatin (I use Great Lakes)
  • 50 ml (fresh) green grape juice*
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp butterfly pea flower tea (2 grams)

Instructions

  1. First make the blue butterfly pea flower tea, by adding 1 tbsp (2 grams) of the butterfly pea flower tea to 2 tbsp of boiling water. Let it stand and stir once in a while to help the color really get out.
  2. Add the lychee juice to a small pot, sprinkle over the gelatin and let it “bloom”. Which is a fancy way to say: “let the gelatin hydrate”. See the pictures above, to get an idea about this.
  3. When the gelatin has bloomed, turn on the heat and slowly melt the gelatin lychee juice mix. Don’t let it boil. Stir it slowly, don’t over whisk it, as it foams rather easy. Once all of the gelatin has dissolved, take it off the heat.
  4. Add the fresh grape juice and honey, stir it gently, until it is all mixed well.
  5. Finally add the blue tea, pour it through a filter so you don’t get the butterfly pea flowers into your gummies,  and squeeze every little drop of color out of it. Stir it gently, until it is all mixed well.
  6. Pour the gummy mix into the molds.
  7. lace the gummies in the refrigerator for minimum an hour, before you remove them from the molds. They are now ready to be eaten. Enjoy 🙂

Note: They stay good in the refrigerator for a couple of days, but remember to listen to your own threshold in terms of how fresh your food need to be. The longer they are kept, the harder the little gummies get.

Notes

* I used fresh grape juice and honey to sweeten these natural blue homemade gummies. You need about 10-15 grapes to makes 50 ml of grape juice. If you can’t be bothered to juice the grapes, or if you don’t have a juicer you can of course use store bought grape juice. Just make sure you get the white grape juice and not red grape juice….. since that will of course impact the color of the gummies.

Very cute. I suffer from inflammation in my body and I’m intrigued by butterfly pea flower and just ordered some powder. Can’t wait to try my hand at some gummies made from this tea. Thanks for sharing.
